Best MTG Booster Boxes to Crack in 2026 (Ranked by Expected Value)
Short answer: As of April 2026, the top 10 MTG booster boxes by sellable EV ratio are all positive expected value. Foundations Jumpstart leads at 2.21x full EV (1.44x sellable), followed by the original Jumpstart at 2.07x (1.52x sellable), and Outlaws of Thunder Junction Play Booster at 1.79x (1.32x sellable). If you're cracking boxes for value in 2026, start here. This list updates daily on the EV Rankings page.
How This List Was Ranked
Every box in this list was evaluated on two metrics from SpellBook's live EV data:
- Full EV ratio: Total expected card value divided by box price. Anything above 1.0 is positive on paper.
- Sellable EV ratio: Expected value after bulk pricing tiers. Accounts for cards too cheap to actually sell as singles. Anything above 1.0 means you recover more than you spent.
The list below is sorted by sellable EV ratio because that's what your wallet actually sees. Full EV that's inflated by unsellable bulk cards is misleading. For the full methodology, see How MTG Box EV Is Calculated.
The Top 10 Booster Boxes to Crack in 2026
1. Original Jumpstart Booster Box ($120.52)
- Full EV ratio: 2.07x
- Sellable EV ratio: 1.52x
The highest sellable EV ratio in the entire SpellBook database. The original Jumpstart product has been out of print long enough that supply is constrained, but the card pool is still valuable because many Jumpstart exclusives found homes in Commander and Pioneer. A $120 box with $183 expected recoverable value is rare.
2. Foundations Jumpstart Booster Display ($90.33)
- Full EV ratio: 2.21x
- Sellable EV ratio: 1.44x
The cheapest entry on this list and the highest full EV ratio. Foundations Jumpstart packs deliver a strong mix of staples and new cards at a $90 price point that makes the math work on both full and sellable EV. Currently the best value crack under $100.
3. Outlaws of Thunder Junction Play Booster ($138.83)
- Full EV ratio: 1.79x
- Sellable EV ratio: 1.32x
The best Play Booster crack in 2026. OTJ has unusually distributed value (not concentrated in 1-2 chase mythics), which means low variance on outcomes. For a full breakdown, see Is Outlaws of Thunder Junction Worth Cracking?
4. March of the Machine Draft Booster ($156.50)
- Full EV ratio: 1.62x
- Sellable EV ratio: 1.26x
Three years post-release and still positive EV. March of the Machine held up better than typical sets due to strong multiverse appeal and limited Draft Booster reprints. 36 packs per box. See the full analysis in Is March of the Machine Draft Booster Still Worth Cracking?
5. Innistrad Double Feature Draft Booster ($193.29)
- Full EV ratio: 1.53x
- Sellable EV ratio: 1.24x
The combined Midnight Hunt + Crimson Vow product. Double Feature was a limited print run, which has kept supply tight. The card pool draws from two sets, giving better hit diversity than standard products.
6. Modern Horizons 1 Booster Box ($276.72)
- Full EV ratio: 1.51x
- Sellable EV ratio: 1.24x
The set that started the Modern Horizons era. Six years post-release and still positive EV. MH1 has been one of the strongest sealed appreciation stories in Magic history, and the cracking math is still favorable for anyone willing to pay the premium.
7. Time Spiral Remastered Draft Booster ($301.60)
- Full EV ratio: 1.47x
- Sellable EV ratio: 1.23x
Remastered sets have proven durable because they gather the best cards from older sets into accessible formats. TSR's mix of iconic time-shifted cards and strong reprints has held value for years.
8. Conspiracy Booster Box ($215.02)
- Full EV ratio: 1.55x
- Sellable EV ratio: 1.22x
The Conspiracy multiplayer draft set has unique cards that don't appear in other products. Draft-only mechanics and unique commanders keep demand steady for this out-of-print product.
9. Jumpstart 2022 Booster Display ($196.04)
- Full EV ratio: 1.51x
- Sellable EV ratio: 1.21x
Jumpstart 2022 followed the original Jumpstart's template with updated themes. Strong card pool carries the EV. Supply has stabilized since release, making this a reliable crack for value.
10. March of the Machine Set Booster ($168.29)
- Full EV ratio: 1.40x
- Sellable EV ratio: 1.17x
The Set Booster format for MoM. Slightly worse EV than the Draft Booster version but still positive. If you prefer Set Booster gameplay, this is the best option in the format.
What's NOT On This List (And Why)
Several popular sets don't appear in the top 10:
- Modern Horizons 3 Collector Booster: 0.57x ratio. Overpriced for current EV. See the full analysis.
- Lord of the Rings Tales of Middle-earth Draft Booster: 0.82x ratio. Below breakeven despite strong sealed appreciation.
- Wilds of Eldraine Set Booster: 0.45x ratio. Set Booster format obsolescence hit this product hard.
- Any Collector Booster Display: None currently rank in the top 10. Premium pricing has outpaced premium card value across the board.
Why Jumpstart Products Dominate the Top
Two of the top 10 are Jumpstart products, which is structurally interesting. Three reasons Jumpstart format boxes tend to have better EV:
- Lower price per pack. Jumpstart packs contain 20 cards at a lower per-pack price than regular booster packs. The math scales differently.
- Theme-based curation. Jumpstart cards are curated for specific themes, which means more playable cards and fewer pure bulk commons.
- Discontinued supply. Original Jumpstart is out of print and Foundations Jumpstart has limited production. Supply constraints are strong.
How Often This List Updates
SpellBook recalculates EV for every tracked sealed product daily using current TCGPlayer market prices. The top 10 shifts as prices move. To see the live rankings, visit the EV Rankings page, which lets you filter by box type, price range, and specific sets.
For the comparison of SpellBook's EV calculator against Dawnglare and The Expected Value, see the MTG EV Calculator page. For simulating pack openings before buying, use the Box Simulator.
Methodology Notes
Every box in this list was evaluated using:
- Daily-updated TCGPlayer market prices (transaction-weighted from completed sales, not listing medians)
- Probability-weighted pull rates from MTGJSON booster sheet data (modeling actual collation, not uniform rarity distribution)
- Sellable EV calculations that apply bulk pricing tiers to cards below $1
For the full technical breakdown of how these numbers are calculated, see SpellBook's pricing methodology and the EV calculation guide.
